Frequently Asked Questions

What does SETAC do?

SETAC is a Community controlled Aboriginal organisation, funded by the State and Commonwealth governments to provide the following services:

  • Primary Health Care
  • Visiting Health Professionals
  • Children and Youth Services
  • Aboriginal Land Management

Does SETAC only service Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people?

Except for Aged Care, SETACs services are funded to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

From time to time, SETAC holds workshops and Community events where everyone is invited, and we will advertise this on our Facebook page.

Can I visit the Fanny Cochrane Smith Church and Living History Museum?

Yes, we will advertise Open Days on our Facebook page and website.

Does SETAC provide Confirmations of Aboriginality?

A Confirmation of Aboriginality (COA) endorses an individual’s claim that they are Aboriginal, so they can access services, programs, and opportunities that are for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only.

SETAC’s Board has given clear direction on COA.

We will provide COA to:

  • Approved SETAC members
  • Children of members, where a birth certificate or other document clearly shows the link

We will not provide COA to:

  • Non-members or people outside the SETAC membership
  • Individuals who cannot show how they are connected to existing SETAC family groups
  • Anyone asking SETAC to research their ancestry, as finding and proving family history is each person’s responsibility
  • Aboriginal people who come from the mainland. They will need to access this information from their community/tribe.
